One Way State is a straight-shooting, sensible prairie power to scratch that musical itch you didn’t know you had. Their New record “The Right Time” exhibits a raw, gritty sound that preserves catchy pop undertones that create a final product that separates One Way State from your run-of-the-mill alternative rock band.

The group has racked up an impressive touring resume, with 4 tours across Western Canada since November 2010. They were nominated for two Edmonton Music Awards (Best Live Act, Artist To Watch) in 2011 and 2012, respectively, and participated in two Sonic 102.9 Band of the Month Showcases. On top of this, they opened for iLLScarlett in 2010, and Steven Page (Barenaked Ladies) in 2012.

“The Right Time” comes, therefore, at the right time in the bands career. “Riot (Midnight War)” leads off the album the right way; catchy chorus, smooth guitar riffs, and a drum beat you could dance too dominates what I found to be a quite enjoyable track. Other highlights include “The Chase” and “The Right Time” which capture lead singer Cody Mack’s vocals really shining on each track. Somber lyrics spoke to very relevant lyrics for any listener, and each verse led right into great choruses again and again. This being said, I would expect One Way State to be picking up more momentum towards the end of the year.
